Product Description

The I Ching or, the "Book of Changes" was written around 1000 BC as a divination manual. One of Earth's oldest surviving texts, I Ching has undergone a number of translations throughout its lifetime, and has developed into a guide book used to shape the moral thinking in religions like Taoism and Confucianism.

This edition was translated by Taoist master Alfred Huang, and has been lauded as the first translation to honor the authentic Chinese spirit of the book.

During China's Cultural Revolution in the 1960s, but was able to continue his study of the I Ching in secret before escaping to the United States in 1979, where he discovered that the book had never been properly translated into English.

While the content of the I Ching is a matter of constant debate among scholars, there is no question that it has had a tremendous influence on the nation of China and its people, as well as the religious philosophies that have disseminated from that region.

In this 10th Anniversary edition, you'll find accurate translations, illustrations, and descriptions for the "King Wen sequence" of hexagrams and their inversions. Previous translations of the book have left these out entirely, though scholars now understand them to play a tremendous role in the studies of cosmology and divination undertaken by the I Ching. You'll also find the highly influential "10 Wings" – short essays and political commentaries that you'll find have maintained much of their relevancy for more than 3000 years.

This is a tremendous, necessary addition to the library of any religious or Eastern scholar, and would make a wonderful gift for anyone who has shown interest in connecting with a greater understanding of the universe.
