The city of San Francisco is about to hit anti-abortion states where it hurts.
Mayor London Breed and District 5 Supervisor Vallie Brown announced the city will "fight back" against a wave of anti-abortion legislation around the country by forbidding city-funded travel or making new business deals with companies in any of the 22 states that currently have "restrictive abortion laws". Starting in 2020, those states will be persona non grata to the city of San Francisco.
"Just as we restricted spending with states that have laws that discriminate against LGBTQ people, we are standing up against states that put women's health at risk and that are actively working to limit reproductive freedoms," Breed said.
Breed's office is hopeful that other cities and states will follow San Francisco's example, putting so much financial pressure on pro-life states that they may change their policies out of sheer financial necessity.
That announcement stirred a tsunami of social media backlash from conservatives and religious leaders.
San Francisco Going Anti-Spend on Pro-Life
The San Francisco blacklist, effective January 1 of next year, will include Alabama, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The first nine states have already been shuttered for business on account of their anti-LGBTQ laws and policies.
While most of the targeted states now ban abortion between 13 and 24 weeks, two have attempted to ban it throughout pregnancy, and five others at just six weeks.
Vallie Brown confirmed the announcement on her official Twitter account:
"If other cities and states follow San Francisco's lead," the mayor's office added in a later statement, "the financial pressure might be enough to prompt policy changes."
For now, however, pro-life advocates seem to be standing their ground, dismissing the announcement as a "desperate PR ploy" cobbled together by pro-choice activists.
"I don't think [San Francisco's government] has any real power with this boycott," declared Terrisa Bukovinac, executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco. "It's a PR tactic. This [resolution] is an attempt to fire up their base, but I don't think that even they expect this to stand up to actual scrutiny in a courtroom."
Meanwhile, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts accused San Francisco officials of needlessly worsening the partisan divide.
Faith Leaders React
While San Francisco stands firm in the face of conservative criticism, evangelists like Franklin Graham were quick to reach for Old Testament passages with which to criticize the move. On his Facebook page, Graham wrote:
"Progressive socialist leaders like Mayor Breed want everyone to swallow the lie that abortion is a woman's right even something to celebrate. But it's not. Abortion is murdering a child in its mother's womb. The Bible says, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil " (Isaiah 5:20). I'm thankful to God for the many states and individuals across this great land that are standing for life."
The President of West Coast Baptist College, Paul Chappell, took to Twitter to decry the move:
But San Francisco has shown no signs of backing down. Because for Mayor Breed and city officials, the blacklist is a matter of principle: "By limiting travel and contracting with certain states, we are sending a clear message to states that disregard the right to abortion," they insist.
Where do you stand? Is the city of San Francisco right to exert its significant financial influence in an effort to change policy around the country? Or could this be an example of the progressive movement overstepping its boundaries and causing unnecessary division in America?

I agree! As a citizen of the Great State of Alabama, I believe that people from San Francisco should avoid our State! We don't want people who reject the Declaration of Independence here.
In Alabama, most of us hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
No logic defines "creation" of a child to be at any time after, well, creation. Fertilization is hard to detect with current technology, but implantation is not. By that time, the child's cells have divided many times, proving that they are alive.

So? Im going to try and explain this from a position that I think even you might be able to comprhend and using analogues that should highlight the flaw of your position.
Do you feel organs, blood,etc are things that should be mandatory to donate? Do you think that a person who has both kidneys fail should be able to demand a good kidney from someone with 2 healthy ones because otherwise they will die?
Because to think that an embryo, fetus, or the like has more claim to the body of the woman hosting it then she does is the same thing. Do you think if there is an accident and the choice is the life of the mother or life of the child, that it has to be the child by default that is saved? Because nature tells us otherwise because most species a mother will if a drought/famine comes abandon or in the case of predators even eat the child to try and survive at all cost. They do this because they can then maybe live to have many more children through the years.
Considering we know that a child taht grows up lacking a parent tends to ahve a variety of mental health issues, its pretty clear it should probably always be the womans life saved by default in such an emergency.
So let me be clear, unless you think organ donation and blood donation, hell even charity should be mandatory, then your having a clear double standard thinking pregnancy should be mandatory.
Considering its actually good for our health especially in middle aged men to donate blood monthly, maybe that should be mandatory huh?

By taking away the right of the woman to choose abortion or not is NOT following what he states. I also wonder what is wrong with a socialist? If they want to forbid abortion in all circumstances, including a dangerous pregnancy that will result in a woman's death if she continues the pregnancy, they are NOT ProLife, they are simply ProBirth. Those impregnated by rape or incest, women (frequently mothers who have children already as the previous pregnancies are the reason their bodies cannot take another pregnancy) who are endangered by a pregnancy have a right to choose. They also have the right to continue a difficult pregnancy if they wish. NO ONE should be able to choose for them And WHY is there so much focus on giving men the ability to have good sex with Viagra? The same effort does not seem to be there for research to provide women with reliable, available, affordable birth control. Does no one else see this connection, as I do?

The states do not block medically necessary abortions.
Women have as much choice as men in deciding on treatments for medical difficulties in having sex. Men are far more likely to not be able to have effective intercourse than women, so they need more access to solutions. Much of the time, it is the partner who drives the decision for the male to use pharmaceutical solutions.

I do not say that certain lifestyles will not inherit the kingdom of God. God does.
God did however give all of us a choice: to obey or not to obey. God established the rules for obedience. Obey them and receive a reward. Disobey and receive a very different reward. The choice is clearly yours to make.

Yes I'd like to know that chapter and verse as well. I know god must have killed a lot of pregnant women when he drowned them during the flood, but as far as I'm aware that wasn't really the best way for abortion, because that sort of killed them both, but then again, he sure does work in mysterious ways.
Anyway, I digress, the chapter and verse would be good. It's the sort of thing I would expect to be in there being as he's very much into hurting people, like removing foreskins of baby boys, stoning, you know, that type of important thing gods tend to do when they are bored after they have labored building a universe. That's got to be very tiring you know. There was no TV back in those days to amuse yourself, but what would he watch anyway, there was only him, plus he knows it all anyway.

KJV is sometimes hard to follow, "the thigh to rot" is what must have thrown me. I compared it with other versions, that were much clearer in the translation.

99.9% of the time it is not womens health, it’s a matter of convenience. It’s not a question of who should be saved, it’s I don’t want the baby. It’s not a question of rape or incest, it was a bad choice with consequences. Men need to be severely punished for rape, incest, for getting a girl pregnant outside of marriage. We need to be accountable for our actions and not blame others.
